If you would like to start a blog for your business or hobby, I suggest using Tumblr.
Tumblr is a website for creating blogs that is free and very easy to use. You simply sign up for an account with your email and a password, fill out some information, and choose a theme (the overall look for the blog). It only takes about an hour to set up. They provide good step by step directions, so all you have to do is follow the prompts. If you don’t like what you have created, you can easily delete your blog.
My mother recently asked me to create a nature crafts blog for her. First, I researched the most popular blogging tools, which are WordPress, Blogger, and Tumblr, in that order. I wanted the blog to be quick to set up and have modern and attractive templates. It also had to be easy for my mother to create posts, since she is not very technical. (She still can’t figure out the remote control for the tv, and she still has a tv.) I found that Tumblr was the blogging tool that met these requirements best.
I created the top image for the blog by photographing some things my mother had collected around Lake Merritt and adding the name she wanted, “Cadeaux de la Nature,” in a cool font. I also added a patterned background. But you could simply pick a top image for your blog off of Google Images.
What remains to be seen is if my mother keeps this blog up. If you are considering starting a blog, please keep in mind that you should post at least once a month. It seems like that will be easy to do at first, but in reality, it is very time consuming to write blog posts, and most blogs quickly become outdated.
